HXA SMART GLASS

Switchable glass. Privacy on demand.

Switchable glass film turns transparent offices and meeting rooms into private spaces. Retrofittable and connected to your room controls.

FROM CONCEPT TO EVERYDAY USE

One concept.
Two ways to use the space.

First the idea, then the effect: explore the same space as a drawing, with clear glass and with frosted privacy glass.

Choose one of the three views. The perspective and space stay the same as the glazing and atmosphere change.

HXA Smart GlassConcept

01 · Understand the space

Glass surfaces, sightlines and use are the starting point. Together, we identify where openness and privacy are needed.

02 · Plan the effect

Clear and frosted states become part of the room concept. Lighting, film specification and the intended effect are assessed with samples.

03 · Integrate the technology

Wiring, power and controls are coordinated with the space — optionally connected to booking and room automation.

Give your glass more possibilities.

Upgrade existing spaces

Suitable glass walls and doors can be retrofitted with switchable film. We assess glazing, dimensions, wiring and installation for your project.

Choose privacy when needed

Meetings, focused work or personal conversations: visual privacy adapts to the situation. Acoustic separation remains a property of the room construction.

Plan for presentations

The frosted surface can serve as a projection area. Projector, lighting conditions and image quality are considered together.

The room is booked. Privacy is ready.

HXA Room Booking manages reservations. HXA Environment Control connects them to room functions — including Smart Glass.

A calendar event can trigger a suitable room scene. Triggers, timing and manual controls are configured around your technical setup.

01 · Reserve

Plan the meeting in a Microsoft 365 or Exchange room calendar. HXA Room Booking shows availability at the room.

02 · Start the meeting

A configured scene switches the glass to privacy and adjusts lighting and climate for the meeting. Local controls are part of the design.

03 · Release the room

After the defined end of use, automation can return the room to its baseline settings. Calendar times and actual occupancy should be coordinated.

Saving energy starts with actual demand.

Smart Glass is part of a coordinated room concept. The key is to control privacy, lighting and climate according to how the space is used.

Use available daylight

Privacy does not have to mean complete darkness. Coordinated lighting controls can account for available daylight and reduce artificial lighting when brightness is sufficient.

Reduce idle operation

Together with Room Booking and Environment Control, lighting, heating and cooling can follow schedules or usage. This can reduce unnecessary operation between meetings.

Assess solar heat gain

Suitable solar control on external glazing can reduce cooling demand. Whether a chosen glass and film combination contributes must be checked against its solar performance data.

Privacy is not a thermal performance rating.

Frosted glass scatters light; this alone does not establish a fixed energy saving. A meaningful assessment considers glazing, orientation, usage, controls and the film’s own power consumption. We evaluate these factors together without promising a universal savings percentage.

Liquid crystals. Two states.

A thin liquid-crystal layer changes how light passes through glass. LCD/PDLC technology switches between a clear view and frosted privacy — electrically controlled, with no moving parts.

Unpowered · frosted

The crystals are disordered and scatter light. The surface turns frosted while still transmitting light.

Powered · clear

The crystals align. Light passes through the layer directly, allowing a clear view.

Privacy where it is needed.

Offices and meeting rooms

Glass offices, conference rooms and open workspaces stay flexible: open views for everyday use, privacy for personal conversations.

Reception and showrooms

Consultation areas can be visually screened. In showrooms, switchable glass can alternate between open presentation and private use.

Clinics and treatment rooms

Switchable interior glazing is also relevant to sensitive consultation and treatment spaces. Privacy, cleaning and material suitability must meet the requirements of each setting.

Frequently asked questions about HXA Smart Glass

Can existing glass walls be retrofitted?

Yes, suitable existing glass surfaces can be retrofitted with HXA Smart Glass. Suitability, dimensions, power supply and cable routing are checked before installation.

How does Smart Glass connect to Room Booking?

Room Booking supplies reservation scheduling. Through a suitably configured HXA Environment Control integration, calendar events can trigger functions such as privacy. Required controls and workflows are part of project planning.

Does Smart Glass automatically save heating or cooling energy?

Not simply by switching to frosted. Potential savings come from coordinated lighting and climate controls. Any additional solar control effect must be verified for the specific glass and film.

Is frosted glass completely opaque?

The frosted surface provides visual privacy. Depending on lighting, distance and specification, silhouettes or shadows may remain visible. The required level of privacy should be evaluated under actual conditions.

Can Smart Glass be used with HXA Smart Cube?

Smart Glass is part of the HXA Smart Cube concept. Switchable glass, booking and room controls can be combined in a coordinated workspace or meeting concept.

What happens during a power failure?

The LCD/PDLC technology described here becomes frosted without voltage. For HXA Smart Glass, the power-loss state depends on the selected film and controls and is checked before installation.
